Science Programs
Many ESC volunteers have backgrounds in Science, Math, & Technology. These professionals enjoy the opportunity to encourage youth about science and to help improve the quality and quantity of time spent on science education. Four aspects of the program:
· Hands-on science experiments in the classroom:
ESC volunteers and talented scientists perform short lessons on a variety of science topics. Classroom demonstrations are like a lab on wheels - they can take place at any school during any timeframe to meet different audience needs.
· Science Fair 101 classes:
A presentation is given to teachers and administrators to help with the planning, hosting and implementation of the fair. Second, presentations are given to students to talk about potential science fair projects. And, third, volunteers return to the classroom to answer student questions after they have started working on their projects. ESC volunteers are also available to act as judges for your science fair.
· Mentoring
Former scientists will be available for counsel by phone or email to work with science teachers.
· Teacher Resource Workshop 101:
Professional Development Workshop that introduces ESC Science Teachers Resource Manual. This Manual is a 200-page Guide which contains 42 experiments and stimulates a hands-on approach to learning scientific principles and concepts. These experiments correlate to the Indiana State Department of Education K-8 standards.
